GOAL

What is life

That we are here today

And must depart on the morrow?

Life is but strife

Blended with joy, I must say

Throughout, filled with much sorrow.

I stand today,

Tomorrow I shall lay

None maketh out alive.

If such be life

How fragile this is

Gone, before we truly live.

Born, not on our will

But climb we must the hill

Of sorrows and pain

Can we not from all this abstain?

Nay! There is no other way

Onwards and upwards, come what may.

Seek thee not the earth and gain

One goal have thou, make it main

Heaven's prince exposed on a pole

For thy sins too great a price for thee to pay

Thus, from eternal damnation, saved thy soul

Proclaim the gospel, thy duty, night and day

Eventide,
